Royal Alberta Museum

The mission of the Royal Alberta Museum is to preserve and tell the story of Alberta and to inspire Albertans to explore and understand the world around them. The Museum collects, preserves and researches the significant historic, archaeological, ethnographic and natural history collections that reflect the legacy of Alberta.

In 2003, Lord Cultural Resources was contracted to assist the Royal Alberta Museum and the Minister for Alberta Community Development to develop the Museum’s Renewal Plan. Following this process, the institution’s shifted strategic directions, leading to the planned relocation of the museum to a new site downtown Edmonton. In 2011, Lord Cultural Resources was on the winning team with Marshall Tittemore Architects and MHPM to provide Bridging Consultant Services, linking past strategic plans with requirements for the new location. The team’s services focused on the preparation of a Statement of Requirements, Functional Brief and RFQ/RFP for a design-build procurement process, review of the short listed design-build submissions and document review of the selected design-build team. Our role focused on an intense first phase to prepare an updated functional program for the new building. An equally intense second phase is to provide technical information, building systems and standards and room data sheets. These services were undertaken with close collaboration with Alberta Infrastructure and its employees at Royal Alberta Museum to meet the deadlines of a short timeframe.
