Congratulations to the Award-Winning The Leaf

Lord has been a partner in planning and executing many parks and conservancies, botanical gardens, horticultural displays, living collections, and other nature-based cultural initiatives. We’re so excited that The Leaf at Assiniboine Park in Winnipeg has been recognized with a National Award of Excellence from the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects.

From the jury: “Through purposeful engagement, the project demonstrates strong landscape architectural leadership in considering traditional values, ecological knowledge, and practices of stewardship of the land, reflecting both the CSLA principles of reconciliation and adherence to UNDRIP in the design and management of the project.”

In 2023 The Leaf was also recognized as "Garden of the Year" at the Canadian Garden Tourism Awards at the 2023 International Garden Tourism Conference.

Our team worked with Assiniboine Park from 2015-2023 to help plan The Leaf, a new horticultural attraction in Winnipeg. Lord developed the Visitor Experience Plan, a cohesive narrative that ties all elements of the gardens together and helped guide design and implementation. We conducted workshops, public events, and story gathering sessions to gather input, test themes, collect plant stories, and with our design partners Weatherston Bruer Associates created a series of interpretive story panels that celebrate the diverse connections between people and plants, enhancing the experience of the gardens.
