Some recent openings to share

Union Station, Toronto

Heritage Interpretive Plan (HIP)

If you’ve ever taken a train in or out of Toronto, you’ll know Union well. Some pretty big changes have taken place over the last few years, as the Union Station Revitalization Project added over 170,000 square feet, transforming it into a world-class transport, retail, and cultural hub. The next time you pass through, take a look at the final results of our HIP, which developed a series of revised interpretive elements in Union Station, including permanent vitrine exhibits, “story” benches, and walking tours. Our work, located on on the lower level in the VIA concourse, helps to tell the thematic history of Union Station, from the architecture and design of the building to the role trains played in immigration to Toronto.

Our Work on Visitor Experience

Raclin Murphy Museum of Art, University of Notre Dame

Facility Planning, Implementation Planning, Study Tour

The Raclin Murphy Museum of Art (formerly Snite Museum of Art) has dedicated itself to the collection, display and interpretation of significant items of contemporary and historically significant works of art. Facing space, storage and infrastructure challenges, the Snite embarked on an ambitious project to pair its existing museum with a new 130,000 sq. ft., art and research facility: the newly opened Raclin Murphy Museum of Art.

We developed a comprehensive space program for both facilities, considering several factors including complimentary programming at the existing museum, a comprehensive works on paper research centre, and planning for additional collection storage. The assignment also included full coordination of a multi-city site tour and long-term implementation strategies for the operation of a two-site institution on a single university campus.

The Palmer Museum of Art, Penn State

Business Plan and Projections

This past June, the 73,000 sq. ft., $85 million new Palmer Museum of Art building opened to exceptional reviews. Originally opened in 1972, the museum was expanded and renovated in 1993 and renamed the Palmer Museum of Art in honour of a leadership gift from James and Barbara Palmer. The Museum has a diverse collection of 11,000 works of art spanning from antiquity to the present but had outgrown the existing facility. A new site for a relocated, enlarged and enhanced museum was identified to help overcome issues of access, visibility and parking and be more welcoming for the general public. Lord Cultural Resources was retained to prepare a business plan and projections of attendance, operating revenues and expenses for the new facility and operation.

“On behalf of the Palmer Museum of Art, I want to thank you for your exceptional work creating a business plan for Penn’s States new art museum at the arboretum. This was no doubt a challenging project, yet you provided a comprehensive market analysis and financial report that will greatly inform the opening of the new museum….”  - Erin M. Coe, Museum Director
