Frye Art Museum

The Frye Art Museum first opened its doors in 1952 as the legacy of Charles and Emma Frye, prominent early-twentieth century Seattle business leaders and art collectors. Since then, the museum has displayed its permanent founding collection of late-nineteenth and early-twentieth-century European paintings free to all. The museum also serves residents and visitors to Seattle with innovative temporary exhibitions that complement the founding collection, as well as extensive pioneering and highly regarded public programs. The Museum’s very success and growth has placed pressures on its current facility and operations. Recognizing these challenges, the Board and staff leadership set in motion a strategic planning process to chart the direction of the Frye for the next five years as well as a facility review and plan for the next 20 years.
