Lascaux Interpretation Center

Lascaux is the setting of a complex of caves in southwestern France famous for its Paleolithic cave paintings. The original caves are located near the village of Montignac. They contain some of the best-known Upper Paleolithic art. These paintings are estimated to be 17,000 years old. In 1979, Lascaux was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list along with other prehistoric sites in the Vézère valley.

Lordculture, the European office of Lord Cultural Resources, was appointed by the Conseil general de la Dordogne to develop a master plan for the new Lascaux Interpretive Center. This large-scale project aims to house a complete replica of the original cave, accompanied by digital media and interpretation spaces dedicated to Lascaux paintings and the Paleolithic period. Our scope of services included interpretative planning, facility planning, business planning and recommendations for the Center.
