Roswell Museum & Art Center

2003-06

The mission of the Roswell Museum and Art Center (RMAC) is to increase public knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of history, cultural change, and art with a particular focus on the douthwest and its place within the broader American society. To do so, the RMAC features multifaceted public programming covering fine art, history and science. Beginning in 2003, the RMAC embarked on a re-interpretation and re-design of the Aston Gallery. Consisting of some 1,500 artifacts representing Native, Euro-American and Hispanic peoples, the gallery provides a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the American southwest.

Lord Cultural Resources and Southwest Museum Services have been engaged to provide complete exhibition planning, design and fabrication services to reinvigorate the Aston Gallery. The new exhibition features an exciting visible storage display organized around the themes of Family & Community, Farming and Ranching, Spirit, War and Conquest, and Trade and Exchange. Based upon our in depth interpretive plan, the completely re-conceptualized gallery space allows for visitor interaction and reflection, being designed for a multitude of learning types and learning styles.

The new Aston Galleries opened in September of 2006.
