Expert Panelists Celebrate New Book with a Look at London

LONDON, U,K.; October 2, 2015 — A panel discussion inspired by the new book Cities, Museums and Soft Power, by world-renowned cultural planners Gail Lord and Ngaire Blankenberg, will take place at the British Library on Thursday 8 October from 6:30 PM to 8:45 PM hosted by the Knowledge Quarter.

Focusing on London and the Knowledge Quarter, the event will comprise short presentations from the authors and experts Yasmin Khan (Independent Cultural Advisor), Miki Lentin (Head of Corporate Affairs, British Library) and Chris Michaels (Head of Digital and Publishing, British Museum), followed by a discussion and audience Q&A.

The discussion will highlight themes from the book, asking:

• How do museums contribute to the soft power of London?
• How can they active their own soft power to address the pressing issues of our time, such as inequality, social exclusion and sustainability?

Panelists will draw on examples from museums and cultural institutions within London, as well as the Knowledge Quarter particularly, which is a new association of knowledge producing and sharing institutions located within a one-mile radius of King’s Cross. Through collaboration, the Knowledge Quarter is intended to amplify and extend the impact of each member’s activities.
