Kenojuak Cultural Centre

The “Capital of Inuit Art”, Cape Dorset is an enormous cultural asset to Nunavut, the Inuit people, Canada and the world. It has the potential to be a major cultural destination of interest nationally and internationally. Printmaking and carving are the community's main economic activities. Each year Cape Dorset’s famed Kinngait Studios, the internationally renowned printmaking centre founded by the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative in 1959, issues an annual print collection. The Studios provide materials and studio space to any community member interested in acquiring printmaking skills. Many a celebrated Inuit artist got their start in the Kinngait Studios. The Inuit people of Cape Dorset have a solid sense of family, society and tradition, and through their art have managed to place this tiny hamlet prominently on the international arts scene.

Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated (NTI) engaged Lord Cultural Resources with Panaq Design to assess the feasibility of an arts/cultural project that would bring tourism and other community and business benefits to Cape Dorset. NTI requested a planning process that would identify a “viable” project. Our team identified a viable concept and developed a detailed business plan for the preferred concept.

The centre opened its doors to the public on Wednesday 5 September 2018.
