PRINCE GEORGES’ COUNTY CULTURAL PLAN

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission engaged Lord Cultural Resources to develop a Cultural Arts Study of Prince George’s County. The purpose of the study is to set forth a vision and outline recommendations on how the County and its partners can build upon, strengthen, and invest in the people, places, communities, and ideas that define arts and culture within Prince George’s County. In addition, the study examines the impact of cultural arts can have on and will have on the economy of the County.

Our process included extensive engagement with community members and key informants throughout the county to understand the key strengths, weaknesses, challenges, and opportunities related to arts and culture. The team worked with an Advisory Committee to ensure the inclusive participation of stakeholders in the study development process including but not limited to artists, arts and cultural organizations, institutions of higher education, municipalities, and businesses. A public survey was also launched to hear from a broad public.

As a “planning community” with an impressive body of existing plans, the Prince George's County Cultural Arts Study, supports and complements the County’s other plans, so that culture and arts are integrated throughout all sectors of Prince George’s County. The study helps stakeholders, including residents, arts, and other sectors, understand Prince George’s County’s arts and culture ecosystem; strengthen and support the cultural sector; better integrate arts and culture into other sectors of Prince George’s County civic life; and tap the transformational abilities of arts and culture to revitalize communities and improve the quality of life for the diverse residents of Prince George’s County.
