Kunsthalle Wien, MuseumsQuartier

1997-98

After the decision to relocate the Kunsthalle Wien in the new MuseumsQuartier development in Vienna, Director Dr. Gerald Matt asked Lord Cultural Resources to review the plans developed by Viennese architects Ortner & Ortner for the renovation of part of the former Messepalast to accommodate the new contemporary art gallery and its supporting facilities. Working with the Director and the architects our firm recommended revisions to the plan, which also had to accommodate use of the other half of the building for the performing arts. Lord Cultural Resources’ services focused on access, adjacencies and circulation, both within the Kunsthalle, and in relation to the rest of the museum complex in the MuseumsQuartier. Lord Cultural Resources was then further commissioned to develop a Marketing Plan for the new gallery, and to advise on an organizational structure to relate the Kunsthalle to the performing arts facility.

The MuseumsQuartier opened in June 2001, by which time the Kunsthalle Wien was already operating an outstanding contemporary art exhibition program in its newly renovated facilities.
