Project Experience
Sing Sing Historic Prison Museum
With the idea for a Museum first conceived in 1995, the Sing Sing Historical Prison Museum (SSHPM) has been a project in the making for quite some time. It has a long and rich history as one of the oldest prisons in New York State, housing notables such as serial killer Albert Fish (aka “The Werewolf of Wysteria” and “The Boogey Man”), bank robber Willie Sutton and Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, among others. The SSPM will be a rich and multifaceted experience, exhibiting historical milestones and memorable stories illustrated in a number of dynamic modes of expression, including artifacts, educational programming, and digital and online content. Major themes will include the history of punishment in America and the creation and development of the penitentiary system and associated reform movements. The museum will also serve as an education center for programs that address contemporary issues in criminal justice.
In order to bring this vision to life, Lord Cultural Resources has been engaged to develop a Program Plan for the future museum. To this end, our team will prepare a visitor program and concept study, which includes development of institutional and interpretive goals and objectives, main messages, major themes, primary topics, narratives and key program elements. Phase two will build on the Concept plan by providing recommendations for facilities, partnership opportunities, revenue generation, governance, staffing and other aspects of operations.
