An event kicking off a visioning process for a proposed African American Cultural Center in Long Beach drew nearly 100 people that included community members who for decades have taken personal responsibility to spread knowledge on a diverse culture in a city without a formal institution for it.

It’s been nearly a year since Long Beach City Councilman Al Austin called for the city to begin developing an African-American cultural center — and that process is finally taking shape.

Austin, along with other local leaders, spoke to a packed room at the Expo Arts Center in Bixby Knolls Tuesday evening, Jan. 29, about how residents can get involved with turning the idea into a reality.

The provincial government announced its partnership with the City of Vancouver last September to explore the creation of a new Chinese-Canadian museum, and it is now engaged in a public consultation process that will help guide the creation of a detailed proposal.

One of the largest private foundations in the U.S. has donated $10 million to the National Museum of Intelligence and Special Operations, The Office of Strategic Services Society announced on Dec. 17.

A nonprofit based in Falls Church, the Office of Strategic Services Society promotes the history and work of the O.S.S., which was the country’s first centralized intelligence agency, and its successors, including the C.I.A.

The OSS Society has been working on the National Museum of Intelligence and Strategic Operations since 2015 when it commissioned the museum-planning firm Lord Cultural Resources to develop a master plan that outlined the concept, visitor experience, and cost and staffing expectations for the facility.

The island is to host a major international conservation conference next year, according to the Bermuda National Trust.

The BNT won a bid for the International Conference of National Trusts 2019, which is expected to bring 150 representatives of conservation groups around the world.

The forum, from March 27 to 30, marks the group’s 18th conference. According to a Trust statement issued this afternoon, it was last staged in Bermuda 30 years ago.

It will coincide with the fourth Caribbean Conference of National Trusts, allowing trusts from around the region to discuss issues.

The city's new Cultural Plan, which makes a bold commitment to embrace equity and diversity in the city's arts landscape over the next seven to 10 years, got a unanimous vote of confidence from the Dallas City Council, which voted 14-0 to adopt the plan.
